SUMMER IN COLORADO
I’ve camped in every season so far with the Roadster. Summer in Colorado was easily the worst experience. Over 100f degrees every day, everything is dead and brown, it really sucked. However, it was a much needed experience and the state was so beautiful. There was an event going on called Flyin’ Miata Summer Camp. Located on the far west side of the state in Palisade. Some friends and I thought it would be fun to participate in the “camp” part of the event, while everyone else got Airbnb’s. So driving from Oregon to Colorado, we were packed and on our way.

The actual camping part was probably the roughest. At the time I only had my hot tent by Onetigris so it was absolutely cooked inside. The rest of the weekend was beautiful, driving Colorado roads in the canyons and spending time with other Miata friends. There were track days, a car show, awards, and independent group dinners with all the friends meeting from out of state. Driving around felt like I was living my Star Wars dreams on Tatooine.

Back at the site we dealt with high winds during the day, and really hot and dusty dinners. When the night came it came down to about 85f degrees, each night was indeed rough. I believe we did 3 nights there. 2 out of those 3 nights there was a mouse that kept running under my tent and making noise all night. It only bugged me because he would come all the way inside the tent and run around, if I had a tent that fully sealed I probably wouldn’t mind. Next time I’ll be more prepared (yes there will be a next time). This was a perfect experience to find out what I need for conditions like this because I wouldn’t mind camping in extreme weather if I have the proper gear.
No matter how hot it is though, it’s never too hot to cook over a fire.
